(VIDEO) All Goals From Mamelodi Sundowns vs Borussia Dortmund in the FIFA Club World Cup
The FIFA Club World Cup continues to deliver thrilling matches, and the clash between Mamelodi Sundowns and Borussia Dortmund was no exception. At the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, fans were treated to a goal-filled spectacle that kept them on the edge of their seats.
Dortmund Prevails Just Barely
The German side managed a narrow 4–3 win in a match that started off badly but was turned around thanks to the firepower of their attack. With this result, Borussia Dortmund moves to the top of Group H, at least until the outcome of Fluminense vs. Ulsan Hyundai, which could see the Brazilian side claim first place.
Sundowns Struck First
The South African team came out with intent and made their mark early on. In the 11th minute, Lucas Ribeiro opened the scoring after going one-on-one with the goalkeeper and finishing clinically.
However, Dortmund response was swift. Just five minutes later, Sundowns goalkeeper Williams misplayed a pass directly to Felix Nmecha, who made no mistake and leveled the score at 1–1.
Comeback With Struggles
From that point on, Dortmund took control of the scoreboard though not necessarily the match itself. Mamelodi enjoyed more possession and more shots on goal but lacked finishing quality.
Before halftime, Serhou Guirassy (34’) and Jude Bellingham (45’) added goals for Dortmund, putting them ahead 3–1 at the break.
In the second half, Sundowns continued to push forward but couldn’t convert their chances. To make matters worse, Khuliso Mudau scored an own goal in the 55th minute, extending the deficit to 1–4.
Late Fightback Falls Short
Despite the setback, the South Africans kept fighting. Iqraam Rayners pulled one back in the 62nd minute, and Lebo Mothiba added a third in the 90th, cutting the deficit to just one.
Still, it was too little, too late. The final whistle confirmed a 4–3 win for Dortmund, who now sit on four points, well-positioned to advance. Sundowns remain on three points and will face a decisive final match in the group stage.
