Raheem Sterling arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs
The 31-year-old was arrested on Thursday in Hampshire, southern England, and was later released on bail pending further investigation.
Former England international Raheem Sterling, currently with Feyenoord, has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, dangerous driving, drug possession and failing to provide a sample for testing.
The 31-year-old was detained on Thursday in Hampshire, southern England, following the conclusion of the Dutch season. Sterling joined Feyenoord in February on a deal that runs until the end of the campaign.
Hampshire Police confirmed that the player's Lamborghini crashed into roadside barriers. No injuries were reported and no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
"The driver, a 31-year-old man from Berkshire, was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs, possession of a Class C drug, and failing to provide a sample for analysis," a police statement said.
Sterling has since been released on bail while investigations remain ongoing.
The former England winger saw his contract with Chelsea come to an end earlier this year before joining Feyenoord as a free agent. Since arriving in Rotterdam, he has made eight appearances for the Dutch club.
