Paris Saint-Germain Win 16th French Cup and Shift Focus to Champions League Final
Luis Enrique’s team comfortably defeats Reims 3–0 and prepares for the biggest game in club history.
Paris Saint-Germain lifted their 16th Coupe de France on Saturday after a dominant 3–0 win over Reims at the Stade de France, in front of more than 77,000 fans. It marked the club’s eighth French Cup title under Qatari ownership and the second for head coach Luis Enrique.
The Spanish manager now holds six trophies with the club, but all eyes are on the potential seventh—next week’s Champions League final against Inter Milan in Munich, a match that will define the success of PSG’s season.
Early Goals Seal the Trophy
From the start, PSG displayed a strong, focused mentality. With the Champions League final looming, Luis Enrique fielded a lineup similar to what he’s expected to use in Munich. Reims, on the other hand, appeared more concerned about their upcoming relegation playoff against Metz.
It didn’t take long for the Parisians to take control. Bradley Barcola opened the scoring in the 16th minute and added a second just three minutes later following a slick one-two with Desiré Doué. Then, just before halftime, Achraf Hakimi made it 3–0 with an assist from Barcola.
PSG created several more chances, with Hakimi especially dangerous down the right wing. By the break, the final was essentially decided.
Reims Falter as PSG Look Ahead
Despite their storied past and a strong regular season against PSG, Reims were no match on the night. A win would have granted them a spot in next season’s Europa League, but that place now goes to Lyon.
Luis Enrique used the final as a dress rehearsal for Munich, resting Gianluigi Donnarumma but keeping the rest of his core lineup intact. Doué started in place of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but the structure remained consistent with what fans can expect next weekend.
The second half lacked intensity, with both teams seemingly saving energy for more pressing objectives. Still, Paris Saint-Germain added another trophy to their collection in what has already been a highly successful domestic campaign.
Now, with the Ligue 1 and Coupe de France secured, the Parisians turn their attention to the biggest match in club history. The dream of winning their first Champions League title is just one game away.
