Why Was the Copa Sudamericana Final Venue Changed and What Is the New Stadium?
CONMEBOL has announced a last-minute change to the organization of the 2025 Copa Sudamericana Final. The match, originally scheduled for November 22 in Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia), will now be played in Asunción (Paraguay) due to delays in the renovation of the Ramón “Tahuichi” Aguilera Stadium.
What happened with the stadium in Bolivia?
According to the official statement, the latest technical inspection at the Tahuichi Aguilera revealed that the remodeling works were not progressing according to schedule. The conclusion was clear: there was no longer enough time to complete the upgrades, despite the efforts of local authorities and the Bolivian Football Federation (FBF).
CONMEBOL described the report as “conclusive,” noting that all reasonable deadlines had already been exhausted and that continuing with the original plan would put the quality of the final at risk.
Why was Asunción chosen as the replacement?
The choice of the Paraguayan capital follows an established protocol for single-match finals. Under this rule, if a venue change is required, preference is given to the city that hosted the previous edition, as it already has proven infrastructure and experience with these events.
Asunción has hosted several continental finals in recent years and boasts venues like the Estadio General Pablo Rojas (La Nueva Olla), where Racing Club of Argentina defeated Cruzeiro 3-1 to lift the 2024 title.

What happens with Santa Cruz and the “Tahuichi”?
CONMEBOL confirmed it will continue supporting investment in the Bolivian stadium, with the goal of hosting a future final. The FBF has already expressed interest in submitting another bid, this time targeting the 2027 edition.
For now, Paraguay and its capital city are preparing to host another top-level continental event, ensuring the prestige and international projection of the Copa Sudamericana remain intact.
