Don't Miss the 2025 Copa Sudamericana Final, a Classic Argentina vs. Brazil Clash Between Lanús and Atlético Mineiro
After nine months of intense action across the continent, only two teams remain in the 2025 Copa Sudamericana. Lanús and Atlético Mineiro are the final pair who will meet in this year's championship match in Asunción, Paraguay — bringing with it a classic Argentina vs. Brazil club battle.
Lanús will be competing in the team’s third Copa Sudamericana final. The club won the competition in 2013, finished as runners-up in 2020, and reached this year’s final after defeating Fluminense in the quarterfinals and Universidad de Chile in the semifinals.
This will be the first Copa Sudamericana final appearance for Atlético Mineiro. However, it marks consecutive South American finals for the Brazilian side, who were runners-up in the 2024 Copa Libertadores final. If the team coached by Jorge Sampaoli defeats Lanús, the club will become the ninth side to win both the Libertadores and Sudamericana trophies.

Everything is on the line between these two clubs in Saturday’s marquee matchup in Paraguay.

Lanús and Atlético Mineiro go head-to-head in Paraguay in the 2025 Copa Sudamericana Final.
Top Five Facts
- Lanús and Atlético Mineiro have faced each other four times in CONMEBOL competitions, always in finals. The Galo are unbeaten against the Granate, with three wins and one draw, winning the trophy in the 1997 Copa CONMEBOL and the 2014 Recopa.
- Atlético Mineiro are looking to become the ninth side to lift both the Libertadores and Sudamericana trophies — and the third from Brazil, after Internacional and São Paulo.
- Lanús will play their third CONMEBOL Sudamericana final, equaling the historical record of Atlético Nacional and LDU Quito. The Granate are aiming to become the club with the most Sudamericana titles, along with LDU Quito, Athletico Paranaense, Boca Juniors, Independiente and Independiente del Valle (two each).
- Jorge Sampaoli is the third manager to reach two CONMEBOL Sudamericana finals, along with Luis Zubeldía and Reinaldo Rueda. The current Atlético Mineiro coach already won the tournament in 2011 while managing Universidad de Chile, and he could become the first manager to win the trophy twice.
- This will be the third CONMEBOL final that Atlético Mineiro play in Paraguay, after the 1992 Copa CONMEBOL at the Osvaldo Domínguez Dibb Stadium and the 2013 Libertadores at the Defensores del Chaco Stadium, both against Olimpia. Although the Galo lost both matches, they ended up becoming champions in both final series.
