After Cienciano's 2-0 victory at altitude in Cusco, the 2026 Copa Sudamericana quarterfinal series moves to Montevideo with a place in the semifinals at stake.

But Cienciano's dominance went far beyond the scoreline. The team finished the night with 31 shots, 12 of them on target, and prevented Montevideo City Torque from scoring for the first time in this edition of the Copa Sudamericana.

History is also on the side of the Cusco club: Cienciano has never been eliminated from a CONMEBOL competition after winning the first leg of a knockout series.

The Estadio Centenario Is Montevideo City Torque's Hope

While Cienciano has history on its side, Montevideo City Torque has a statistic that keeps the tie wide open.

The Uruguayan side has never lost at home in the history of the Copa Sudamericana. In nine matches, it has recorded six victories and three draws.

In addition, Marcelo Méndez's team has the best shot conversion rate since the beginning of the group stage in this edition, scoring 14 goals from 92 attempts.

Salomón Rodríguez, the team's leading scorer in the tournament with five goals, is one of the main hopes of completing the comeback.

The challenge is enormous: overturning a two-goal deficit against a Cienciano side that arrives in Montevideo determined to protect an advantage that could send it back to the continental semifinals.

The winner of the tie will face Atlético Mineiro for a place in the 2026 Copa Sudamericana final.
