Conmebol Predicts a Festive Atmosphere for the Copa Sudamericana Final in Asunción
Conmebol is anticipating an unforgettable Copa Sudamericana final in Asunción, where Lanús and Atlético Mineiro will fight for the title.
The single-match final of the Copa Sudamericana between Lanús and Atlético Mineiro, set to be played this Saturday in Asunción, is expected to be “a unique celebration” filled with emotion, according to Conmebol president Alejandro Domínguez. The South American football chief affirmed that the Paraguayan capital is ready to host another world-class event, as has become tradition in recent years.
One of the Most Important Football Events in the World
Speaking at a press conference at Conmebol headquarters in Luque, Domínguez emphasized that the decisive match of the Sudamericana ranks among the five “most important” football events globally. This will be the third time Asunción hosts the final, and the goal is to deliver the best edition in the tournament’s history.
The clash will take place at the historic Defensores del Chaco stadium, which was recently renovated for the match and prepared to deliver “high emotions.” Expectations are soaring: more than 30,000 tickets have already been sold, most of them purchased abroad, ensuring a packed stadium and an electric atmosphere.
Fan Zone, Entertainment and a City Living the Final
Ahead of the decisive showdown, Asunción will experience a vibrant celebration. Domínguez confirmed that organizers have prepared a large Fan Zone along the Costanera of Asunción, on the banks of the Paraguay River. The area will offer live concerts, food courts, gaming spaces and various activities on Thursday and Friday leading up to the final.

According to Conmebol marketing manager Claudia Cortázar, the Fan Zone is expected to attract around 17,000 people. Adding to the excitement, the confederation also announced that 100 footballs have been hidden throughout the Paraguayan capital — anyone who finds one will receive a ticket to the final.
Lanús and Atlético Mineiro Aim for Glory
On the sporting side, Atlético Mineiro will compete in the Sudamericana final for the first time since the tournament’s creation in 2002. Lanús, meanwhile, will look to reclaim the trophy they lifted in 2013. Both fanbases are gearing up for a historic showdown that promises an unforgettable atmosphere both inside and outside the stadium.
