Miguel Merentiel scored the game's only goal in the 44th minute, giving Boca a valuable advantage as the Xeneize continue their quest for a place in the Round of 16.

The victory also helps Boca Juniors regain confidence after their Copa Libertadores elimination. Backed by the atmosphere at La Bombonera, the Argentine giants took an important step in their bid to return to continental glory, having not won the Copa Sudamericana since 2005.
