(VIDEO) River’s Winning Goal Against Bragantino
River Plate secured a dramatic victory in Brazil to claim the top spot in Group H. A stoppage-time header sealed the win in a high-intensity clash that could have gone either way.
A Hard-Fought Win in Brazil
River Plate earned a crucial 1-0 victory over Red Bull Bragantino in São Paulo to move into first place in Group H of the Copa Sudamericana. The side managed by Eduardo ‘Chacho’ Coudet had to fight until the final moments to break the deadlock, with Lucas Martínez Quarta scoring a dramatic winner in stoppage time.
From the opening minutes, the Argentine team looked determined to control the game through possession and high pressing. River Plate dominated early and constantly threatened the goal defended by Cleiton, though they were unable to convert their chances.
As the match progressed, Bragantino, coached by Vagner Mancini, found balance. The Brazilian side tightened its lines and began exploiting transitions, with Isidro Pitta emerging as a key attacking threat. The match turned into a fast-paced, end-to-end battle with both teams pushing for a breakthrough.
Beltrán Shines Before Martínez Quarta Decides It
The second half maintained the same level of intensity. Lucas Martínez Quarta was involved at both ends, conceding a penalty after a late challenge inside the box. However, goalkeeper Santiago Beltrán stepped up to deny Eduardo Sasha, keeping River Plate alive in the contest.
The game shifted when Alix Vinicius was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, leaving Bragantino with ten men and forcing a defensive adjustment in the closing stages. Despite having the numerical advantage, River Plate struggled to find the decisive play.
Just when a draw seemed inevitable, the breakthrough arrived. In the 90+3 minute, Lucas Martínez Quarta rose inside the box to head home the winning goal, sparking celebrations for the Argentine side.
With this result, River Plate moves to 7 points and sits atop Group H, ahead of Carabobo and Bragantino, while Blooming remains at the bottom.
The win represents not only three vital points but also a major boost in confidence for Coudet’s team as they continue their push in the Copa Sudamericana and aim for a deep run in the tournament.
