Racing Club repeated its 1-0 victory over Vélez Sarsfield to win the all-Argentine series and secure a spot in the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores, where they will face the winner of the clash between Estudiantes de La Plata and Flamengo.
With a lone goal from Santiago Solari in the 82nd minute, La Academia celebrated in front of its packed Estadio Presidente Perón, completing a 2-0 aggregate after the first-leg win secured by Adrián ‘Maravilla’ Martínez.
Thanks to this qualification, Racing Club continues its pursuit of a second continental title after the one achieved in 1967, reaching the semifinals for the first time in 28 years and the fourth time in its history.
A dominant display at home
Racing imposed its rhythm from the opening whistle despite already leading the series. Before the 15th minute, a shot from ‘Maravilla’ Martínez saved by Tomás Marchiori and two missed headers showed the hosts’ aggressive intent.
In the 22nd minute, Racing suffered a setback when Juan Nardoni had to be replaced by Bruno Zuculini due to injury, but just nine minutes later Santiago Solari again forced a save, this time with the help of the post. Before halftime, Agustín Almendra, Solari once again, and Tomás Conechny all created danger but failed to score.

In the second half, Vélez tried to react with substitutions, bringing on Tobías Andada and Manuel Lanzini. The latter nearly leveled in the 47th minute after a perfect pass from Maher Carrizo, but his finish went wide. Shortly after, Michael Santos missed a double chance, and in the 62nd minute Imanol Machuca forced a brilliant save from Facundo Cambeses, confirmed by VAR as the ball had not fully crossed the line.
In the 76th minute, the post denied Solari again, but just six minutes later a great play from Gabriel Rojas ended with a low cross that Solari finished to seal the victory.
Awaiting a giant clash
Vélez pushed forward in the closing minutes but lacked precision, while Racing controlled the game through rotation and counterattacks until the final whistle confirmed their place in the semifinals.
Their opponent will be decided Thursday at the Estadio UNO in La Plata, where Estudiantes will host Flamengo, who won the first leg 2-1 at the Maracaná.
