Football and Logistical Problems for River in Their Visit to Paraguay
The Millonario will play the first leg of the Copa Libertadores Round of 16 against Libertad this Thursday at Estadio La Huerta in Asunción. In addition to dealing with several injury-related issues, they have also faced accommodation problems.
Logistical Problems in Asunción
CONMEBOL granted special authorization for the stadium where Gumarelo play their home games. Despite not meeting regulations, such as capacity requirements, the Paraguayan club made the request and the South American governing body gave its approval. To make matters more complicated, the Pan American Junior Games are taking place in Asunción, leaving the city completely packed. Adding to that, another Copa Libertadores match —Cerro Porteño vs Estudiantes— will be played this Wednesday. As a result, hotel capacity has reached its limit, and the River squad will have to stay more than 30 kilometers away from the capital.
Gallardo Adjusts the Squad List with Absences and Returns
Gallardo’s men will now need to focus exclusively on football, as they are dealing with several absences and faced difficulties putting together the squad list. Among the new names are young talent Ulises Giménez and, for the first time, Juan Carlos Portillo, one of the club’s reinforcements. Joining them are Paulo Díaz and Sebastián Driussi, both returning after recovering from injuries.
