Fluminense Possible Lineup Against Independiente Rivadavia in the 2026 Copa Libertadores
Flu head to Mendoza with a new coach and everything on the line after failing to take advantage of the first leg at home.
Fluminense visit Independiente Rivadavia this Tuesday at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas in the second leg of the 2026 Copa Libertadores Round of 16. A 0-0 draw in Rio de Janeiro left the tie completely open, with a place in the quarterfinals now set to be decided in Argentina.
The Brazilian side were unable to capitalize on home advantage in the opening leg and must now find the result they need away from home to continue their continental campaign.
Fluminense arrive with one major change. Luis Zubeldía left his position following the first leg, with Marcão taking charge of the team ahead of one of their biggest matches of the season.
Marcão Prepares His Starting XI Against Independiente Rivadavia
Fábio is expected to start in goal for Fluminense in the decisive clash in Mendoza.
Guga, Ignácio da Silva, Thiago Silva and Guilherme Arana are projected to form the back line, with Hércules, Mattheus Martinelli and Nonato operating in midfield.
There is plenty of experience and attacking talent further forward. Hulk, Rodrigo Castillo and Yeferson Soteldo are expected to lead the Brazilian side's attempts to break down an Independiente Rivadavia defense that kept them scoreless in the first leg.
Fluminense Possible Lineup
Marcão will look for a lineup capable of providing balance while offering enough attacking threat to find the goal Fluminense were unable to produce in Rio de Janeiro.
Fluminense possible XI: Fábio; Guga, Ignácio da Silva, Thiago Silva, Guilherme Arana; Hércules, Mattheus Martinelli, Nonato; Hulk, Rodrigo Castillo, Yeferson Soteldo.
Head coach: Marcão.
Fluminense Boosted by Victory Over Palmeiras
The coaching change produced an immediate response. Marcão began his tenure with an important 3-2 victory over Palmeiras over the weekend.
The result provided a welcome confidence boost after Fluminense failed to beat Independiente Rivadavia at home in the opening leg of their Libertadores series.
Their next challenge will be carrying that momentum into continental competition and finding the attacking efficiency that was missing from the first 90 minutes.
Flu Need Their Experience to Make the Difference
Fluminense finished second in Group C with eight points from six matches, behind none other than Independiente Rivadavia.
The Brazilian side now face an opponent that has already shown, both in the group stage and the opening leg, that they are capable of competing against more experienced continental opposition.
With the aggregate score at 0-0, there is little room for error. Fluminense must find in Argentina what they could not produce in Rio de Janeiro if they are to secure a place among the final eight teams in the Copa Libertadores.
