Copa Libertadores 2025: This Is How the Semifinals of the Continental Tournament Will Be Played
The dream of South American glory now has its four contenders. Two high-voltage clashes will decide who reaches the grand final in Lima.
Flamengo Completes the Bracket
The Estadio UNO in La Plata hosted an epic battle. Estudiantes won 1-0 with a goal from Mauro Méndez, leveled the series, and forced penalties. But that’s where Agustín Rossi emerged as the hero. The Flamengo goalkeeper saved two shots and sent the Mengão through to the semifinals.
With that victory, the Brazilians will now face Racing, who advanced after eliminating Vélez with back-to-back 1-0 wins. La Academia arrives in top form after winning last year’s Copa Sudamericana, topping their group in the first stage, and knocking out Peñarol in the round of 16.
The Other Duel: Palmeiras vs Liga de Quito
On the other side of the bracket, Palmeiras showed their power to eliminate River Plate. The Verdao won 2-1 in Buenos Aires and followed up with a 3-1 victory in São Paulo, sealing the tie with a 5-2 aggregate score. Despite Colidio’s early goal, Abel Ferreira’s side asserted their dominance at home.
Their opponent will be Liga de Quito, who shocked São Paulo. In the first leg, played in Ecuador’s altitude, they won 2-0 with goals from Bryan Ramírez and Michael Estrada. In the return leg at the Morumbí, Tiago Nunes’ men stood firm and claimed a 1-0 win thanks to Jeison Medina, knocking out Hernán Crespo’s team.
Schedule and Road to the Final
The Copa Libertadores 2025 semifinals will be played between October 21 and 28, with home-and-away legs. The higher-ranked teams will host the decisive return matches. The winners will advance to the single-match final, set for November 29 at the Estadio Monumental in Lima.
Estudiantes, meanwhile, bows out with $3.57 million earned in prize money and must now focus on the Argentine Clausura Tournament, where they are battling to qualify for international competitions in 2026.
