Palmeiras Stays Perfect and Secures Knockout Spot With Win Over Cerro Porteño
Palmeiras continues its dominant run in the 2025 Copa Libertadores. On Wednesday, the Brazilian side defeated Cerro Porteño 2–0 in Asunción, securing a spot in the Round of 16 with two matches to spare and becoming the first team in the tournament to qualify with a perfect record.
Estevão and Vitor Roque Seal the Victory
The Group G Matchday 4 clash was intense, but Palmeiras quickly established control. Led by Portuguese manager Abel Ferreira, the visitors outplayed Cerro Porteño, who struggled to generate clear scoring chances.
The breakthrough came in the 41st minute, when Estevão unleashed a powerful left-footed shot from outside the box, beating goalkeeper Alexis Arias to open the scoring. The young Brazilian continues to impress as one of the tournament’s brightest stars.
In stoppage time, Vitor Roque added the finishing touch with a brilliant solo effort in the 94th minute, firing a low shot to seal the 2–0 result.
Palmeiras Advances With a Perfect Record
With the win, Palmeiras now has 12 points in Group G and becomes the first team in the competition to reach the Round of 16 with a perfect record. Their consistent performances on both ends of the pitch have made them clear title contenders.
Cerro Porteño, meanwhile, remains in second place with 4 points, tied with Sporting Cristal, who were set to face last-place Bolívar later in the day. The Paraguayan side now faces a crucial matchup in the race to advance.
On the next matchday, Sporting Cristal will host Cerro Porteño in Lima in a battle for second place, while Palmeiras will look to stay perfect as they welcome Bolívar in São Paulo.
