The Brazilian side became the first team to reach the semifinals after Platense came close to completing another historic comeback.
Fluminense were pushed to the brink but avoided a comeback by Platense to book their place in the semifinals of the 2026 CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores. The Brazilian side lost 2-1 in Argentina, but their 2-0 first-leg victory was enough to see them win the tie 3-2 on aggregate.

EL CALAMAR HAD FLUMINENSE ON THE ROPES
Martín Palermo's side came out firing and opened the scoring in the 30th minute. Guido Mainero capitalized on a series of rebounds inside the penalty area to beat goalkeeper Fábio.
Platense kept up the pressure and were rewarded just before half-time. In the 45+2nd minute, Bruno Sepúlveda rose to head home a precise cross from Guido Mainero and make it 2-0.
The goal leveled the tie at 2-2 on aggregate, leaving Platense just one goal away from completing a historic comeback.
CANOBBIO ENDS THE ARGENTINE DREAM
The game changed in the 57th minute. Agustín Canobbio received the ball from Hulk near the edge of the penalty area, weaved his way through the defenders and finished into the far corner to make it 2-1.
The goal put Fluminense back ahead on aggregate and forced Platense to score twice to turn the tie around.
The Argentine side kept pushing until the final whistle, but Fábio came to the rescue once again. At 46 years old, the veteran goalkeeper produced a crucial double save to preserve Fluminense's advantage.
Fluminense held on, won the tie 3-2 on aggregate and became the first semifinalist of the 2026 Copa Libertadores. They will face the winner of the series between LDU Quito of Ecuador and Palmeiras, the reigning runners-up.
