Ancelotti Reunites With Vinícius Jr. at Maracanã
Carlo Ancelotti, newly appointed head coach of the Brazilian national team, reunited with Vinícius Jr., his former player at Real Madrid, at the iconic Maracanã Stadium during a Copa Libertadores match.
Long-Awaited Reunion in Rio de Janeiro
The Italian manager watched from a private box as Flamengo defeated Deportivo Táchira 1-0 in the final matchday of the group stage. During the game, Vinícius Jr., who once played for Flamengo, made a surprise appearance to greet Ancelotti.

The two shared a conversation during halftime. Vinícius, currently vacationing in Rio after wrapping up the season with Real Madrid, attended the match alongside Flamengo’s sporting director, José Boto. After a brief chat with his former coach, the forward left the stadium before the final whistle.
Brazil Focuses on World Cup Qualifiers
Vinícius Jr. and Ancelotti will officially reunite on June 2 when the Brazilian national team gathers in São Paulo for two critical World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay.
During his visit to Maracanã, the European coach also took the opportunity to watch several Flamengo players he included in his first squad: defenders Alex Sandro, Wesley, and Léo Ortiz, along with midfielder Gerson.
This reunion not only strengthens the bond between Ancelotti and Vinícius, but also marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Brazilian side—one that values continuity and deep familiarity with its key players as it aims for another World Cup appearance.
