Tom Brady Must Be Fuming: Birmingham City Not Seen as a Premier League-Caliber Team
Despite major investments and a bold project, expectations for the club’s promotion in the 2025–26 season remain very low.
Only Given a 15% Chance of Promotion
Although Tom Brady has shown strong commitment as a minority investor in Birmingham City, the outlook for the club as they return to the Championship is far from promising. Analyst Don Goodman has stated that the team has just a 15% chance of earning promotion to the Premier League next season under head coach Chris Davies.
The former player and pundit pointed to the team’s playing style as the primary obstacle. In League One, Birmingham regularly dominated possession, averaging 66% of the ball. However, Goodman warned that this approach will be hard to replicate in the Championship, where competition is much tougher.
“Few newly promoted sides show as much ambition as this one. Still, I can’t give them more than a 15 to 20 percent chance,” Goodman told talkSPORTBET. He emphasized that the real challenge will be adapting their style of play to a more demanding environment where possession alone won’t win matches.
Brady Backing the Project With Signings
Despite the skepticism, the club’s management has shown clear intent to build a competitive squad. Birmingham City has made nine first-team additions during the summer window, including the notable signing of Japanese striker Kyogo Furuhashi from Celtic—a deal made possible thanks to the financial backing of Tom Brady.
Goodman admitted that while the odds are low, Birmingham’s project bears similarities to that of Ipswich Town, a team now seen as a serious contender in the division. In fact, Birmingham will face Ipswich on the opening day of the season, offering a valuable glimpse into how well they can compete from the outset.
For the former NFL quarterback, patience will be essential. Even with high-profile investments and a clear strategic vision, Birmingham City’s return to the top flight of English football remains a distant goal. Based on current projections, Tom Brady may not be thrilled with how his team is being perceived ahead of the new campaign.
