Ghana Qualifies for Its Fifth World Cup in History
With a narrow win over Comoros, the Ghana National Team secured its ticket to the 2026 World Cup, marking its fifth appearance on football’s biggest stage and reaffirming its status as one of Africa’s strongest sides.
Kudus Leads Ghana Back to the World Stage
Ghana officially booked its place at the 2026 World Cup after a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Comoros in the final match of the African qualifying first phase. The decisive goal came from Mohammed Kudus, the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, who found the net in the 47th minute following a perfect assist from Thomas Partey of Villarreal.
The win in Accra, under the guidance of head coach Otto Addo, made the “Black Stars” the 21st team to confirm their participation in the upcoming World Cup to be held across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The result also cements Ghana’s reputation as one of Africa’s most consistent and competitive football nations in recent years.
A New Chapter for the Black Stars
This will be Ghana’s fifth appearance at a FIFA World Cup, and its second consecutive one, after competing at Qatar 2022, where they finished fourth in Group H following losses to Portugal (2–3) and Uruguay (0–2), and a thrilling 3–2 win over South Korea.

The African side made its World Cup debut in Germany 2006, where they reached the Round of 16. Their best run came in South Africa 2010, when they advanced to the quarterfinals and came just one penalty away from becoming the first African team to reach the semifinals. In Brazil 2014, they were eliminated in the group stage.
With qualification secured, Ghana joins other confirmed nations such as Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay, Morocco, and hosts United States, Mexico, and Canada. Now, under Otto Addo’s leadership, the “Black Stars” will aim to build a competitive squad capable of once again carrying Africa’s hopes on football’s grandest stage.
