LIVE! Mauritania vs Tanzania in CAF African Nations Championship
Teaser: Mauritania seeks its first-ever historic victory in the CHAN 2024, while Tanzania aims to secure qualification with a second consecutive win.
Wednesday night at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium promises high drama as Mauritania faces host nation Tanzania in a pivotal Group B clash at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.
Mauritania enters the match desperate for a first victory after a goalless draw against Madagascar, while Tanzania rides the momentum of a solid 2-0 opening win over Burkina Faso.
Head coach Artiz López Garai assured that his squad is “mentally and physically” ready for the challenge. “Tanzania is playing at home, and that changes things, but we have learned and adapted after each match,” said the Spanish tactician, who will have a full-strength lineup available.
Midfielder Al Hassan Diop echoed the optimism: “Team spirit is excellent. We want the three points, and we have clear instructions from the coach. We’ll give everything on the pitch.”
Mauritania has only participated twice in CHAN and has never won a match. This could be their best chance to change that history.
Tanzania Aiming to Seal Quarterfinal Spot
On the other side, Hemed Suleiman, head coach of Tanzania, emphasized his team’s high morale after their debut victory: “We want to keep the momentum going, and we know a second win would bring us closer to our goal.”
While pleased with their start, Suleiman admitted improvements are needed in attack: “We didn’t create many chances. In African football, scoring four or five goals isn’t easy, but we must increase our threat in the final third.”
Goalkeeper Aishi Manula urged caution: “The next match will be tougher because expectations are higher. Winning at home in the opener was crucial, and now we need to build on that.”
The coach also made a heartfelt appeal to the fans to recreate the electric atmosphere from the first match: “We want them to push us again and give them something to be proud of.”

With Madagascar still in the hunt, Group B remains wide open. A Tanzania win would take them to six points and virtually guarantee qualification, while Mauritania must win to stay alive. The match will be live on beIN SPORTS and promises to be a decisive battle for both teams’ tournament hopes.
