When Can Jamal Musiala Play for Bayern Munich Again After His Two Collapses?
The German star's diagnosis has left one major question unanswered about his immediate future.
Jamal Musiala still does not have a timetable for his return to Bayern Munich after suffering two concerning collapses and subsequently revealing that he experiences absence seizures related to a neurological condition.
For now, setting a specific date for his comeback would be premature. The full details of Musiala's diagnosis have not been made public, and his return will depend on both the underlying cause of the episodes and how he responds to treatment.
However, epilepsy specialist Professor Dr. Christian Elger has explained to Kicker some of the medical conditions that would need to be met before Musiala could potentially return to the field.
What Does Musiala Need Before He Can Play Again?
According to Elger, there are three particularly important factors that would need to be considered before the Bayern star returns to competitive action.
“If he is seizure-free, the diagnosis is correct and the EEG is also clear, then he can play,” the specialist explained.
An EEG, or electroencephalogram, is a test used to record electrical activity in the brain. In Musiala's case, its results would form part of the medical evaluation specialists use to determine whether he can safely return to competition.
That means there is currently no specific date for Musiala's Bayern Munich return. The priority will be controlling the episodes and monitoring his progress before a decision is made.

What Are the Absence Seizures Affecting Musiala?
Musiala recently revealed that his collapses are related to brief, temporary absence seizures. Elger explained that these episodes are a particular form of epilepsy, although determining exactly what causes them requires an individual assessment.
“There is an enormous range of possible causes behind it, and these have to be clarified in each individual case,” the specialist explained.
That is precisely why it is impossible to determine how long Musiala will need before returning based solely on the information that has been made public.
Musiala's Treatment Offers Reasons for Optimism
The encouraging news for Musiala is that these conditions can respond very well to treatment in certain cases.
According to Elger, depending on the underlying cause and triggers, up to 90% of patients can become completely seizure-free with the appropriate medication.
Musiala himself has already described his condition as treatable and said he is receiving excellent medical care. Bayern Munich and his personal support network are also helping him throughout the process.
Is Jamal Musiala's Career at Risk?
The two incidents inevitably raised concerns among supporters, including questions about whether the condition could threaten the German star's professional career.
However, the specialist's explanation does not suggest that Musiala will necessarily have to stop playing soccer. If he remains seizure-free, his medical tests produce the required results and his treatment does not negatively affect his performance, a return to competition could be possible.
For now, everything will depend on his progress and the assessments of the doctors overseeing his case. Rather than putting a date on the calendar, the immediate priority is to bring the episodes under control before Musiala can wear the Bayern Munich jersey again.
