Vincent Kompany Reveals How Jamal Musiala Is Progressing
Jamal Musiala is getting closer to playing again for Bayern Munich, but the club does not want to set a date simply for the sake of accelerating his return.
The good news is that Musiala has now completed a full week of training with the squad and, according to Vincent Kompany, he is responding well physically.
Now comes the most important decision: determining whether he is ready to compete again.
Musiala Is Training Normally but Has Not Yet Been Cleared to Return
Bayern Munich’s next match will be this Saturday against Schalke 04 at the VELTINS-Arena in the Bundesliga, and Musiala still has a chance of being included in the squad.
Kompany, however, made it clear that the decision will be made with the player’s best interests in mind.
“He's had a good and full week of training. He's doing well. We've already stated how we'll handle him. Jamal is in a good spell,” the coach said.
The manager also revealed an important detail.
Bayern Munich have been monitoring Musiala’s situation for longer than was publicly known. The player is being supported by specialists and remains in constant communication with the medical staff as they monitor his progress.
That explains why the club does not want to turn every training session or squad selection into a race against the clock.
Bayern Now Know How to Handle Musiala’s Episodes
One of Kompany’s most important comments concerned the possibility of another episode occurring.
The coach explained that the club has specialists assisting with the situation and now has a much better understanding of how to manage it.
“We always have the very best experts helping us. Jamal also communicates very well about it. We'll make the right decision in a sporting sense,” he explained.
Kompany added that if another episode were to occur, it would no longer cause the same level of alarm within Bayern Munich as it initially did, precisely because the club now knows how to manage the situation.
That does not mean the club will take any unnecessary risks.
Before returning, Musiala needs to be in a position to compete and perform at the level required by Bayern Munich.
Schalke Could Be the First Step in His Return
The final test will come during the training session before the match.
Kompany confirmed that they will assess how Musiala responds before deciding whether to include him in the squad to face Schalke 04.
The match will take place this Saturday at the VELTINS-Arena in the Bundesliga and could represent the first opportunity to see the German back in competitive action this season. If he is not ready in time, his next opportunity could come in the UEFA Champions League opener against Bodø/Glimt.
Meanwhile, Serge Gnabry will have to wait a little longer. The forward continues to recover from the adductor injury he suffered last season, and Kompany has ruled him out for this week, although he hopes to have him back soon.
With Musiala, the situation is different.
He is training again, responding well physically and has rejoined the group.
But after what happened during preseason, Bayern Munich have one priority above any match: making sure his return comes only when he is truly ready.
