Nicolas Jackson Shines at AFCON as Bayern Future Fades Away
As his club future grows uncertain, Nicolas Jackson is delivering answers where it matters most: on the pitch, and on Africa’s biggest stage.
Africa First, Europe on Hold
Nicolas Jackson is once again under the spotlight. Not only because of the growing uncertainty surrounding his future at Bayern Munich, but due to his electric start with Senegal at AFCON 2025.
All the excitement of AFCON 2025 is available exclusively on beIN SPORTS.
The forward has been one of the tournament’s standout performers, scoring two goals in two matches and establishing himself as a key attacking figure for the Lions of Teranga in the opening phase of the competition.
A Loan Spell Nearing Its Natural End
Jackson joined Bayern Munich on loan from Chelsea FC on deadline day last summer, seeking a fresh start after falling out of favor at Stamford Bridge under Enzo Maresca.
The deal included a conditional obligation to buy, tied to a specific number of appearances — a scenario that now looks increasingly unrealistic. Jackson has largely been used as a rotational option in Germany, and his involvement at AFCON further reduces the chances of Bayern triggering a permanent move.
Agent Sends a Clear Message: Italy
The strongest indication of what comes next has come from his camp. Jackson’s agent, Ali Barat, speaking to Fabrizio Romano, made little effort to hide his client’s interest in Italian football.
“Top Italian clubs wanted him even before his move to Chelsea, and again last summer. Nico only wanted Bayern and we made it happen. Playing in Italy one day? Of course he’s attracted by Italian football.”
Those comments have been widely interpreted as a strong hint that Serie A could be Jackson’s next destination.
No Route Back to Chelsea
A return to Chelsea also appears unlikely. Reports suggest that Jackson is not part of Chelsea’s plans while Maresca remains in charge, and the club has already begun shaping its future without him.
The Blues have secured a deal to sign Emmanuel Emegha from RC Strasbourg, underlining their willingness to move on from Jackson in the long term.
AFCON as the Perfect Launchpad
With Bayern’s purchase option effectively off the table, the remainder of the season is shaping up as a showcase for Jackson. And so far, AFCON has been the perfect stage.
