Neuer Embraces the Cold Ahead of the World Cup
At 40 years old, Manuel Neuer continues to set the standard. The Bayern Munich goalkeeper provided a light-hearted yet powerful lesson in toughness during training ahead of the World Cup.
Manuel Neuer remains one of football’s ultimate role models. As preparations intensify for the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, the veteran goalkeeper stole the spotlight during a recent Bayern Munich training session.
Now 40 years old, Neuer is set to participate in his fifth World Cup after earning a recall to the German national team. Following the long-term injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen and uncertainty surrounding other goalkeeping options, coach Julian Nagelsmann turned once again to the experienced shot-stopper.
During a recovery session involving ice baths, several younger players struggled with the freezing temperatures. Among them was Aleksandar Pavlović, who visibly felt the effects of the cold water. Neuer, however, appeared completely unfazed. Relaxed and comfortable throughout the exercise, he drew laughter from teammates and staff while further cementing his “IceMan” reputation.
Beyond the amusing moment, the scene highlighted the leadership and composure that have defined Neuer’s remarkable career. Germany enters the tournament determined to recover from disappointing group-stage exits in both 2018 and 2022, and the presence of one of the game’s greatest goalkeepers could prove invaluable as a new generation looks to restore the nation’s place among football’s elite.
