Niko Kovac was thrilled for Maximilian Beier, who was Borussia Dortmund's matchwinner against Stuttgart in the wake of his omission from the Germany squad.

Maximilian Beier was left out of Jurgen Klopp's Germany squad, but he responded by scoring the winner in Borussia Dortmund's latest victory.
Beier scored the only goal as Dortmund defeated Stuttgart on Saturday, as BVB maintained their 100% start to the Bundesliga season, and ensuring they will be in top spot going into the international break.
He recorded his third goal involvement in the Bundesliga this season (one goal, two assists), with only Serhou Guirassy (four) having more for Dortmund.
Only Deniz Undav (17) has recorded more Bundesliga goal involvements among German players than Beier (12 – six goals, six assists, level with Philipp Tietz) in 2026.
However, Beier missed out on a place in Jurgen Klopp's first Germany squad, despite 44 players being called up.
And Kovac was delighted to see how the striker responded to that snub.
"Life writes the most beautiful stories," said the Dortmund boss.
"Maxi Beier isn't with the national team, but he was the one who scored. I'm thrilled for him, and it ultimately shows that we have a great squad and a great player in Maxi, and that he has rewarded himself with this goal.
"Now, he can take a few days off and work from home."
Dortmund have started a Bundesliga season with four consecutive wins for the first time in 11 years; this is only the fourth time the club have achieved this feat, after 2001-02, 2013-14 and 2015-16.
They have also won six consecutive matches in all competitions, equalling their record under Kovac, who previously achieved this run in April and May 2025.
"From both sides, it was an intense game that did not have quite as much as one knew from past encounters between Dortmund and Stuttgart," added Kovac.
"It is a statement win to do it here."
