The final scoreline does not tell the entire story of the first half. Stuttgart competed, turned the match into a physical battle and nearly took the lead in the 12th minute, when Tiago Tomás crashed an effort against the crossbar.

Upamecano Opens the Way for the Champions

Bayern Munich gradually grew into the match and found the breakthrough in the 21st minute. Joshua Kimmich delivered a corner into the penalty area and Dayot Upamecano rose to head home from close range.

From that point on, Vincent Kompany’s side began finding more space. Luis Díaz had a huge opportunity in a one-on-one situation, while Michael Olise, Nathaniel Brown, and Konrad Laimer also threatened the visitors’ goal.

However, Fabian Bredlow kept Stuttgart alive with several important saves, allowing his team to reach halftime trailing by only one goal.

Bayern Unleashes a Second-Half Avalanche

Everything changed after the break.

In the 52nd minute, Josha Vagnoman stunned the Allianz Arena with a superb strike that left Manuel Neuer with no chance and brought VfB Stuttgart level at 1-1.

The champions’ response was immediate.

Just three minutes later, Michael Olise restored Bayern’s advantage with an excellent finish. Then, in the 57th minute, Vagnoman’s night completely changed. After scoring the equalizer, he attempted to cut out a cross from Joshua Kimmich but instead sent the ball into his own net.

Bayern had turned a 1-1 game into a 3-1 advantage in a matter of minutes.

Olise appeared to score again in the 63rd minute, but what would have been his second goal of the match was disallowed.

Pavlović and Luis Díaz Complete the Rout

With a two-goal cushion, Kompany’s team reduced the tempo and began controlling possession, forcing Stuttgart to take greater risks in its attempt to get back into the contest.

In the 82nd minute, Aleksandar Pavlović effectively ended any remaining hopes for the visitors by scoring Bayern’s fourth.

But there was still one more star waiting to join the celebration.

In the 90+2 minute, Luis Díaz, who had been searching for his goal throughout the night, finally got his reward and scored the fifth to complete the party in Munich.

The 5-1 victory represents much more than three points for Bayern Munich. The champions began their Bundesliga title defense with authority, resilience and a demonstration of the extraordinary attacking weapons available to Vincent Kompany.
