Bayern Munich Close to Extending Key Player’s Contract
Bayern Munich is very close to securing the continuity of Konrad Laimer. According to Münchner Merkur, there are still some financial details preventing the Bavarian club and the Austrian midfielder from fully finalizing the agreement.
Contract Situation and Salary Differences
The main obstacle in the negotiations is related to salary terms. Currently, Laimer earns around €9 million per season, and Bayern’s renewal proposal would increase his salary to €12 million. However, the midfielder believes that, given his importance to the team, he should earn closer to €15 million annually.
The club’s honorary president, Uli Hoeness, addressed the situation and made the club’s position on the player’s demands very clear. “Konny is a player I appreciate a lot, very important for the team. He works extremely hard, but he’s not Maradona. Very few clubs in Europe can offer what he currently earns. I don’t know exactly what the club proposed, but I’m sure it wasn’t what his agents demanded from the beginning,” he said.
Despite the ongoing negotiations, Laimer has expressed happiness in Munich. In a recent interview with Servus TV, the player admitted he feels comfortable at Bayern, although he also hinted at how important it is for him to feel valued within the project. “Recognition is what matters. It’s important that the achievements from the last year are appreciated,” he stated.
Laimer’s Importance for Vincent Kompany
Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, also commented on the matter and said both sides will need to find middle ground in order to reach a final agreement. Laimer is still under contract until 2027 and, when asked about the possibility of losing him for free in the future, Eberl responded calmly: “He arrived without a transfer fee, so we wouldn’t lose much.”
Since joining Bayern, the Austrian international has become an extremely valuable player thanks to his versatility. He can play as a right back, left back, or defensive midfielder, making him a key piece for Vincent Kompany.
In total, Laimer has already made 132 appearances wearing the Bavarian club’s jersey, and his performances have fully convinced the coaching staff. Bayern wants to renew the contract of one of its most reliable players as soon as possible, although both parties still need to bridge the financial gap with the player and his representatives.
