World War II Bomb Discovered in Mainz Stadium
An undetonated bomb from the US Army was discovered deep within Mainz's stadium.
An unbelievable and historic discovery has been made in Germany, specifically at Mainz's stadium, where an undetonated bomb belonging to the US Army was found. The bomb, weighing 500 kilograms, was unearthed during construction work for the expansion of a nearby university.
The incident occurred in an area near the MEWA Arena, Mainz's multipurpose stadium located in the district of Mainz and capable of accommodating 33,034 spectators. In response, the local fire department and civil protection authorities are considering evacuating at least 4,600 residents from the area until the bomb squad can safely detonate the device without causing any injuries.
At present, Mainz is facing relegation in the Bundesliga, so their upcoming match against Cologne on Sunday, scheduled to be held at the same stadium where the bomb was found, poses an additional challenge. However,
this discovery might simply become an anecdote, and the match could proceed as planned, though it could also be seen as either a stroke of good or bad luck for the home team.
As a side note, just days before this discovery, a smaller incendiary bomb was found near the stadium on Monday, April 15. Fortunately, this bomb was safely disposed of without posing any danger to the population.
