Zidane Hints at Return to Coaching — and Sets His Sights on France
After nearly five years away from the sidelines, Zinedine Zidane has confirmed his desire to return to coaching, making it clear that his ultimate dream is to lead the France National Team.
Zidane Eyes a Comeback
The football world may soon see one of its most iconic managers back in action. Zinedine Zidane, a Real Madrid legend and one of the most successful coaches of the past decade, has revealed his intention to return to the dugout after a lengthy absence.
Since parting ways with the Spanish giants in the 2020–21 season, the Frenchman has not taken charge of any club or national team. During his appearance at the Festival dello Sport in Trento, Zidane spoke openly about his enduring passion for the game and his plans for the future. “Without a doubt, I’ll coach again. It’s something that’s part of me,” said the former midfielder, hinting that his comeback could be closer than many expect.
The former playmaker also shared how his journey as a coach began after retiring from football: “I didn’t know what to do; I tried many things until I signed up for a coaching course.” Since then, Zidane’s name has been linked to multiple projects, but he made it clear that his ambition is well defined: “One of my dreams is to coach the French national team. We’ll see when the time comes.”

A Blue Dream: France on the Horizon
Zidane’s wish to manage France isn’t new, but this time, his words sound more determined than ever. The French tactician, who famously won three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles with Real Madrid, has remained on the French Football Federation’s radar for years — especially after the 2022 World Cup, when he was heavily rumored as a potential successor to Didier Deschamps.
Beyond his ambition to take over “Les Bleus,” Zidane also reflected on his playing days and his connection with clubs that shaped his career, including Juventus, where he enjoyed great success before moving to Madrid. At 53, the French icon says he’s patient but ready for the right opportunity.
“I miss competition, the locker room, and the emotions of everyday football. It’s something that never leaves you,” he said. With those words, Zidane made it clear that his story on the touchline is far from over — and while his next destination remains uncertain, the colors of France seem to be calling him louder than ever.
