Xavi Turns Down Another Offer, Waiting for the Right Project to Return to Coaching
Former FC Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández remains in no rush to return to the dugout. Since leaving the Catalan club in the summer of 2024, the Spanish coach has turned down several offers—the latest coming from Spartak Moscow—reaffirming his intention to wait for a project that truly aligns with his football philosophy.
Xavi Staying True to His Style
At 45, Xavi is standing firm: he won’t return to coaching until he finds a project that shares his vision of the game. His exit from Barcelona, though amicable, revealed some underlying differences with the club’s sporting direction. Since then, he has been linked to teams such as Manchester United, Ajax, and even Al Ittihad of Saudi Arabia, but none of those proposals have convinced him.
According to Sport, Spartak Moscow offered him the chance to lead a new project under Spanish sporting director Francis Cagigao, but Xavi declined after feeling unconvinced by the club’s structure and current situation. With only four points from the opening rounds of the Russian Premier League, the team, managed by Dejan Stankovic, is struggling—and his position is reportedly at risk.
Following Xavi’s rejection, Spartak’s leadership is already exploring alternatives, with Spanish coach Luis García emerging as the main candidate for the job.
A Coach Who Values Philosophy Over Money
Unlike many unemployed managers, Xavi Hernández is in no hurry. While others are eager to jump back into top-level football, the former Barcelona star is opting for patience. Financially comfortable and clear about what he wants, he has even turned down multimillion-euro offers—such as the one from Al Ittihad, which approached him after sacking Laurent Blanc in September.

“The priority is the right project, not the money,” a source close to the coach reportedly said. Xavi’s goal is to find a club where he can implement his footballing principles: ball control, positional play, and the development of young talent—key pillars of his tactical philosophy.
In recent months, there were even rumors of a possible approach from the Indian national team, though talks reportedly broke down due to financial reasons. Still, the episode underscores how Xavi’s name continues to generate global interest.
For now, the former Barça boss remains focused on studying, analyzing projects, and meeting with his coaching staff as he waits for the right challenge. True to his beliefs, Xavi Hernández isn’t just looking for a job—he’s looking for a place where his vision of football can truly flourish.
