Will He Step Into the Octagon? Sergio Ramos Trains in Mixed Martial Arts With Ilia Topuria
The Andalusian center-back, currently without a club after his stint in Mexico, surprises his followers by showing his toughest side alongside the UFC champion as he plans his future in Europe
Sergio Ramos has done it again. The Spaniard, known for his insatiable curiosity off the pitch —from singing to painting— has decided to try his hand in the octagon. This time, it wasn’t just a casual visit as a spectator, but a real training session, sparring with none other than Ilia Topuria, the two-time UFC world champion.
The close friendship between the two is no secret, but seeing the former Real Madrid star challenging 'El Matador' has broken the internet. In the video shared by the defender, Ramos steps onto the scene with boxing gloves hanging around his neck and his usual charisma, playfully throwing out challenges: 'Let’s see who’s got the balls.' After an intense training session, the Seville native ended up completely impressed by his friend’s mastery. 'It’s a privilege for a two-time world champion to give a lesson to a world champion,' Ramos joked, to which Topuria replied with mutual admiration: 'You’re the two-time champion, brother.
An uncertain future with the World Cup on the horizon
Beyond the show in the gym, Ramos's professional situation is a hot topic. After concluding his stint with Monterrey, where he delivered great performances, the center-back has decided not to renew with the Mexican club. His goal is clear: a return to Europe's elite.
At 39 years old, Ramos is looking for 'one last dance' in a top-tier league, with Italy’s Serie A as his preferred destination. The motive behind this move is none other than to convince Luis de la Fuente for a potential final call-up to the Spanish National Team ahead of the World Cup. However, the market remains open, and options such as River Plate in Argentina or the growing interest from the MLS remain significant alternatives if a return to Europe does not materialize.
