Why You Mustn't Miss The Polish League on beIN SPORTS
The Polish Ekstraklasa is coming to beIN SPORTS. From Cinderella stories to no-selfie supporters, you won't want to miss out!
Serious Summertime Soccer
Last season is officially over with the end of the FIFA Club World Cup. You are probably thinking that the next month will be a drag, full of meaningless, pre-season friendlies before the big European leagues get underway in mid-August.
Wrong! Due to the intense nature of an Eastern European winter, the Polish League starts this Friday July 18th, with current champions Lech Poznan kicking off the defense of their Ekstraklasa title. That means no-holds-barred, no-quarters-given football from day one. Combine that with the Copa Sudamericana playoffs, and there’s no such thing as Summertime Sadness on beIN SPORTS.
Leicester City stories every season
The Polish Ekstraklasa has had four different winners in the past five years. The club with the greatest number of victories in the league’s history, is Legia Warsaw (15). However, Legia have not clinched the title since 2020-21.
Indeed, before Lech Poznan claimed the title last season, the league was won by two clubs who had never won the championship before: Rakow Czestochowa and Jagiellonia Bialystock. Leicester City winning the Premier League was a 5000-1 miracle for a reason. In the Polish League, every season could see a Cinderella story.
No selfies, all soccer
The country of Poland has gone through the wringer of history. From its inception to World War II, its subsequent communist occupation by the USSR to the modern vibrant country it is today.
The one stability in this century of turbulence for Poland has been its football clubs, and that is why the Polish League supporters are real, raw and old-school.
In the Polish League, there are no empty seats in the stadiums and there are no tourists there to take selfies with superstars. The Ekstraklasa is as real as it comes.
Demolition Derbies
Poland is a country with fierce regional rivalries, between the big cities and proud regions.
One of the biggest rivalry matches of the league has been branded as ‘Holy War’ due to its intensity as the two massive clubs of Krakow, go head-to-head: Wisla Krakow and Cracovia, a match-up that has been running for over 110 years.
