With the curtain now closed on the 2026 FIFA World Cup, club football is ready to take center stage once again across Europe. The continent's top domestic leagues are preparing to begin a new season, with reigning champions aiming to defend their titles while challengers look to launch new title bids in what promises to be another thrilling campaign.
Alongside the return of domestic action, Europe's premier club competitions are also approaching, as the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Conference League prepare for another exciting season.
Europe's Top Leagues Are Ready to Return
The first of Europe's five major leagues to resume action will be LaLiga, which kicks off on August 15. Defending champions Barcelona will begin their title defense in a season highlighted by two El Clásico clashes against Real Madrid, scheduled for October 25, 2026, and May 9, 2027.

One week later, the Premier League will get underway on August 21, with reigning champions Arsenal opening their title defense. That same weekend also marks the start of both Serie A and Ligue 1. In Italy, defending champions Inter Milan begin their campaign, while in France, Marseille will host Racing Strasbourg in the opening match of the new season.
The Bundesliga will be the last of Europe's five major leagues to begin, with its opening round scheduled for August 28, featuring an intriguing matchup between Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart.

European Club Competitions Are Also Set to Return
On the continental stage, the UEFA Champions League league phase begins in September 2026, with Paris Saint-Germain chasing a historic third consecutive European title. Before then, the qualifying rounds, already underway, will determine the remaining participants.
The UEFA Europa League will also launch its league phase in mid-September, while the UEFA Conference League has already started its qualifying rounds ahead of its league phase, which begins on October 15.
