Total Concern: Harry Kane Could Miss England’s Upcoming Matches
Alarm bells are ringing in the England camp. Their captain and star striker, Harry Kane, has sparked concern after missing the final training session ahead of the friendly against Wales due to an ankle issue. The Bayern Munich forward picked up a knock during his team’s 3–0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, and now his availability for the upcoming international fixtures is in doubt.
According to reports from The Independent, the English striker did not participate in Wednesday’s full training session with the rest of the squad and instead worked separately, following a recovery program under the supervision of the medical staff.
Recovery slower than expected
Although it was initially hoped that Kane would make a quick recovery, the process has been slower than expected. During the session, the English striker worked in the gym while his teammates trained outdoors — a clear sign that Gareth Southgate may choose not to risk him against Wales.
Also undergoing light recovery work is Jarell Quansah of Bayer Leverkusen, who is dealing with minor fitness issues. Sources close to the England camp insist that Kane’s injury “is not serious,” but the timing couldn’t be worse, given how crucial he has been in Southgate’s attacking setup.
The player himself attempted to ease concerns after the match against Frankfurt, saying it was only a minor knock:
“I’m recovering right now. It was just a knock, nothing serious. I’ll be fine in a few days and ready to rejoin the team,” the striker told reporters after the game.
England on edge without their captain
The potential absence of Kane would be a major challenge for Southgate, who will need to find alternative attacking options. Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa appears to be the natural replacement, though his inconsistent start to the season raises doubts. Another possibility would be to use Marcus Rashford or Anthony Gordon as a false nine — a tactical option Southgate has not ruled out for the clash against Wales.
Beyond the immediate concern, Kane continues to chase historic milestones with England. With 109 appearances and 74 goals, he is already the nation’s all-time top scorer and sits just 16 caps away from matching Peter Shilton’s record as the most-capped player in England’s history.
While it seems likely that the English captain will return before the World Cup qualifier against Latvia on October 14, the scare has shaken fans. For now, both England and Bayern Munich share the same priority: to ensure their leader makes a full recovery without risking a relapse that could jeopardize the rest of his season.
