The One Thing That Terrifies Cristiano Ronaldo off the Pitch: A Former Teammate Reveals His Strangest Obsession
You’d think his biggest fear would be on the pitch… but it’s not. Cristiano Ronaldo’s obsession with peak performance is so extreme, he avoids certain things just to sleep better. Paranoia or pure discipline?
Nothing is left to chance in CR7’s routine
At 40 years old, Cristiano Ronaldo remains a competitive machine. His contract with Al-Nassr runs through age 42, he continues to score goals at a high rate, and he’s eyeing the 2026 World Cup. None of that is luck—it’s the result of a meticulously crafted lifestyle. But even among former teammates, some of the Portuguese legend’s habits continue to surprise.
Cédric Soares, now playing for São Paulo, and a former teammate of Ronaldo’s during Euro 2016 and the 2018 World Cup, revealed in an interview with ESPN Brazil one of CR7’s most curious fears: the use of 5G on mobile phones, especially at night. “Cédric, you can’t use 5G—it can mess with your sleep,” Ronaldo would tell him every time they met.
No Wi-Fi, no phones in the bedroom
That warning wasn’t just talk. According to Soares, Ronaldo would go as far as to block Wi-Fi signals and leave his phone outside the room to ensure deep, uninterrupted sleep. “I don’t know if he still does it, but he blocked the signal to sleep for hours,” the defender explained. He also recalled that Ronaldo preferred to invite him for real conversations in the room rather than spending time on screens: “No phones—let’s go to the room and talk a bit.”

While there’s no solid scientific proof that 5G affects sleep, Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t take chances. His lifestyle is built on prevention, routine, and total control of every variable.
The daily discipline of a legend
This 5G habit is just one piece of the puzzle. It’s well known that Cristiano follows a unique sleeping method involving five 90-minute naps a day, trains through personalized sessions, avoids unnecessary screen time, and follows a diet crafted by a private chef. While others second-guess, he’s already preparing for his next challenge.
Extreme? Maybe. Effective? Absolutely. In CR7’s world, even the Wi-Fi has to follow the plan.
