Three Million to Protect Messi

Yassine Cheuko, Lionel Messi’s personal bodyguard at Inter Miami, receives an annual salary of three million dollars — a figure that makes him one of the highest-paid employees at the club outside the pitch. His contract also includes a clause granting him an extra half-million dollar bonus if he successfully fulfills his protection duties throughout the season.

From Europe to MLS

Cheuko joined MLS on the direct recommendation of David Beckham, Inter Miami’s co-owner and president, who already knew him from Messi’s time in Europe. Beckham wanted to avoid risks in U.S. stadiums, where security is often less strict than in the Old Continent. 

Still, the Argentine star doesn’t always rely on him: he’s been spotted at shopping centers or supermarkets without his escort, something that surprises his fans.

With a background in the Navy SEALs, Cheuko is known for his firm demeanor and quick reactions. He doesn’t distinguish between young or adult fans — anyone who tries to approach Messi without permission will be moved away.
