The club dreaming of bringing Neymar, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo together
Many clubs have tried before, but only Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona have come close. Could this club finally make it happen?
Wrexham A.F.C. has been a club that has more than once grabbed the spotlight, not only because its owner is Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds, a Hollywood star. But now it is drawing attention for another reason: its ambition to achieve what clubs like Inter Miami CF, Paris Saint-Germain, and others have never managed—bringing Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi together in a single professional team.
IF YOU CAN DREAM IT, CAN IT BECOME REALITY?
This all comes after Welshman Tony Pulis, former Premier League manager, dared to suggest he would love to see these superstars in the squad in the future—something highly unusual in football, even though many fans and even clubs with massive budgets in Europe and the Middle East have long dreamed of it.
“Wrexham’s next big signing? Cristiano, Messi, Neymar… why not? Wales is a wonderful place, especially the north, a beautiful country,” Pulis said in comments to the Irish portal Boyle Sports.
Bold or not, the statements from the Pillgwenlly native carry weight, given his eight years of managerial experience and 17 as a player in English football. His remarks come in a context where this competition, in its Premier League era, has already achieved the impossible, and the Red Dragons have become proof that they are no ordinary club.
It is worth remembering that the Red Dragons are the only side to achieve three historic promotions in Great Britain, rising from the fifth division to the second tier by 2025. They currently compete in the Championship, which, despite being the second division, is one of the most competitive leagues in world football—often even above several top-flight leagues in Europe.
The project has also generated huge attention thanks to the passion and investment of Reynolds, best known for portraying Deadpool in Marvel films.
THE ONES WHO TRIED
Although Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona managed to bring Neymar and Lionel Messi together, neither club was able to convince Cristiano Ronaldo despite their attempts.
Al-Nassr FC of the Saudi Pro League and Inter Miami CF of Major League Soccer (MLS) also made efforts to reunite the stars, as did Manchester City, but all ended up falling short.
Will Wrexham make this super team a reality? For now, it only exists in video games and football simulators.
THE LAST DANCE?
The three legends, who shared the final podium of the Ballon d’Or in 2015 and 2017, are currently preparing to be at full fitness with their national teams for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is shaping up to be the last World Cup for all three.
After that, they could continue their club careers with new challenges—and this possibility is not entirely far-fetched.
The challenge for Wrexham would be to surpass the $37.8 million spent on transfers in 2025, which ranked them as the 72nd biggest spender in world football. That figure becomes even more striking when considering Neymar earns around $3.8 million per year, Messi between $70 and $80 million, and Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly makes $232.6 million annually.
