Tottenham have signed French defender Alice Sombath from Lyon for a reported club record fee.

No details about the price paid have been disclosed, but it is believed to be more than the £375,000 they paid for Signe Gaupset in January.

Spurs have also not stated the length of her contract.

"I want to do my best here at Tottenham. I think the league is very competitive, every game is a tough game, and that's what I'm most excited about," she said.

"I saw that Spurs had a very good season last year – my qualities can bring something to the team, even though I know they already have a lot."

Sombath made 102 appearances for Lyon in all competitions, with 15 of those coming in the Premiere Ligue in 2025-26, when she helped the side keep five clean sheets.

The 22-year-old joined Lyon's academy in 2020 and made her first team debut at the start of the 2021-22 campaign.

She won five consecutive Premiere Ligue titles, as well as winning the Coupe de France twice (including 2026).

Sombath won the Women's Champions League in 2021-22 and was part of the side that was beaten in last season's final by Barcelona.

Tottenham finished fifth in the Women's Super League last season, ending the campaign with 36 points.
