Sergio Ramos Could Wear Rossoneri Colors in January and Reunite With Luka Modric
The future of Sergio Ramos is gaining traction again in Europe. While Rayados de Monterrey fight for the Apertura 2025 title, the Spanish defender’s name has begun circulating insistently on the radar of AC Milan, where he could reunite with his former teammate Luka Modric. Although people in Mexico are trying to cool down the rumors, in Italy he is already being considered a real option for the winter transfer window.
Torrent shuts down the noise: “This isn’t the time to talk about that”
Monterrey manager Domènec Torrent was blunt after eliminating América in the quarterfinals.
“This isn’t the time to talk about any of that. He’s focused on winning this championship,” he said after the dramatic 3–2 aggregate win that sent his team to the semifinals.
The coach insisted that everything being said about Ramos’ exit is “speculation,” adding that even he doesn’t know what will happen once the tournament ends. Ramos was once again decisive against América, even saving a goal in the closing minutes with a crucial sliding tackle, a reminder of his still-elite competitiveness.
Even so, reality bites: Ramos’ contract with Rayados expires in December and will not be renewed, a factor that is fueling the growing rumors in Europe.
Milan closely monitoring the Spaniard: a zero-cost market opportunity
In Italy, there is consensus: Sergio Ramos is an attractive option for Milan under Massimiliano Allegri, who is looking to reinforce the defense with experience and leadership. With the arrival of Mexican forward Santi Giménez and the presence of Luka Modric, the Rossoneri project aims to add weight in the dressing room and continental pedigree.
The transfer has an added appeal: Ramos would arrive on a free. That alone makes him a valuable piece in what is expected to be a limited winter market.
Other clubs are also monitoring the former Real Madrid captain, including Juventus, Galatasaray, Al Hilal, and Como 1907, but so far there has been no formal offer.
Ramos’ impact in Monterrey: leadership, goals and reliability
Since arriving in Mexico in February 2025, Ramos has established himself as an absolute cornerstone of the team. His numbers with Rayados reflect his ongoing elite level:
- 32 matches played
- 7 goals
- 7 clean sheets
- 42 interceptions and 41 tackles
- 69 aerial duels won
- 0 errors leading to a goal
With that level of consistency, his departure will leave a difficult gap for Monterrey to fill, but it also opens the door to one last European dance.
January will mark the beginning of a decisive chapter: Sergio Ramos could be heading back to one of football’s great capitals, wearing Rossoneri colors and reuniting with Modric, just like in their best Bernabéu days.
