Rodrygo celebrates his return to the Brazilian national team: “It felt like an eternity being away”
Rodrygo is back in Brazil’s colors after nearly seven months away. The Real Madrid forward opened up about how long his absence from the Seleção felt and his excitement to contribute again.
“It felt like an eternity”
After 195 days, Rodrygo Goes is once again wearing Brazil’s iconic yellow jersey. The Real Madrid forward was one of the most anticipated names in Carlo Ancelotti’s latest squad, as the Italian coach begins his tenure in charge of the national team. Having missed the last CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia, the attacker expressed how happy he was to return and admitted that his time away felt endless.
“It was a long time… It felt like an eternity being away from the national team. It was difficult; I went through a lot. It was good to reflect, clear my head, and get myself back on track. I feel good and ready to give my best, my best version,” Rodrygo said in a press conference reported by Globo Esporte.
The forward also highlighted the importance of having the support of those around him—and of Ancelotti—during that challenging period. “Being with Ancelotti is a pleasure. He has helped me a lot and gave me a big boost in my career. Under his guidance, I’ve improved so much,” he added.
“No one has a guaranteed place”
The 24-year-old, who has played in eight of Real Madrid’s ten matches this season, also spoke about the challenge of staying in Brazil’s squad.
“No one has a guaranteed place. You have to play well and perform at your club to stay in the national team and make it to the World Cup,” he stated, making it clear that competition within the Seleção is fierce.
Rodrygo admitted that the break helped him mature and refocus. “It was good to clear my thoughts. I feel stronger now, with a clear mind and ready to keep fighting for my place here,” he said.
Looking ahead
Rodrygo’s return comes just in time for two tough friendlies against South Korea and Japan, which will serve as preparation for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The Brazilian forward hopes to use these matches to regain confidence and prove why he remains one of his generation’s brightest talents.
“I’m very happy to be here again. Now I want to enjoy it, help the team, and score goals for Brazil,” he concluded with a smile.
After nearly seven months of waiting, Rodrygo is back hungrier than ever. Brazil regains one of its most gifted weapons—just as the road to the World Cup begins to take shape.
