River Plate shakes up the market with a move that completely changes its sporting project
The Argentine club completed one of the most important deals of the transfer window and secured an international star on a long-term contract. The new signing has already put pen to paper and is ready to begin a new chapter in Buenos Aires.
River Plate officially announced the signing of Thiago Almada, who signed his contract on Monday and formally began a new chapter in his career following his spell in European football.
The 25-year-old Argentine midfielder signed a deal with the Millonario that will run until December 31, 2030, making him one of the club’s biggest sporting investments for the coming seasons.
River makes a major bet on a World Cup winner
The attacker was part of the Argentina national team that won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and now returns to his country’s football after spending much of the past few years of his career abroad.
Before completing his move to Núñez, Almada belonged to Atlético Madrid, which officially confirmed that it had reached an agreement with River Plate for his transfer.
A major deal for Argentine football
Various reports place the value of the deal at around 20 million euros, a figure that ranks the move among the most significant completed by an Argentine club in recent years.
River therefore strengthens its project with a player who can operate both as an attacking midfielder and on the wings, bringing creativity, flair and international experience to its attack.
A new chapter begins at the Monumental
After completing his move, Almada will be available to head coach Eduardo Coudet and will join first-team training as he begins adapting to the club’s new sporting project.
His arrival also marks the return to Argentine football of one of the most recognizable players of his generation, now on a contract that ties him to River for more than four seasons.
With the signing now complete, the Millonario adds a player of considerable quality and takes another step toward its goal of returning to prominence both domestically and internationally.
