PSG Crowned Intercontinental Cup Champions After Dramatic Final
Luis Enrique’s PSG continue to etch their name in gold in the history books, lifting another trophy after defeating Flamengo on penalties
European soccer once again asserted its dominance over South America, as PSG showed their pedigree and, after a commanding first half, defeated Flamengo to win their first Intercontinental Cup, following a dramatic penalty shootout that ended 2–1.
Luis Enrique’s PSG, a First-Half Machine
The reigning European champions set the tone for their victory through quality and by exploiting Flamengo’s defensive frailties. Every attacking combination from the French giants set off alarm bells.
One of the key moments was a disallowed goal by Fabián, after the ball had gone out of play before the finish, along with an early warning sign from Bruno Mendes. For Flamengo, Erick Pulgar had a chance, but there was no sustained reaction.
In the 38th minute, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia capitalized on a cross from Désiré Doué, after goalkeeper Agustín Rossi could only get a slight touch.

Jorginho Revives Flamengo Against PSG
In the second half, PSG appeared to have the match under control. However, Marquinhos brought down Giorgian De Arrascaeta inside the box. After a VAR review, referee Ismail Elfath awarded a penalty, which Jorginho converted.
Late in regulation time, Marquinhos had the chance to settle everything for PSG, but the title slipped through their fingers, sending the match to penalties. In the shootout, however, Flamengo struggled badly, allowing PSG to seal the trophy.
