Othmane Maamma, the Watford Star Who Conquered the World and Won the U-20 World Cup Golden Ball
African talent shines in Chile. Morocco makes history at the U-20 World Cup as Othmane Maamma crowns himself the new jewel of world football.
The Moroccan Jewel That Conquered the World
Chile 2025 will be remembered for Morocco’s dominance. Othmane Maamma, Watford’s dynamic winger, was named Best Player of the U-20 World Cup, capping off a brilliant tournament with Morocco’s 2-0 victory over Argentina in the final.
At just 20 years old, Maamma was the heartbeat of the African champions — electric down the right wing, relentless in one-on-one duels, and decisive when it mattered most. In the final, he provided the assist for Yassir Zabiri’s opening goal, sealing his reputation as the creative engine of a golden generation.
Zabiri and Delgado Complete the Podium
Fellow Moroccan Yassir Zabiri took home the Silver Ball and shared the Golden Boot with Benjamin Cremaschi (USA), Lucas Michal (France), and Néiser Villarreal (Colombia) — all finishing with five goals. Zabiri’s double in the final sealed Morocco’s historic triumph.
Argentina’s Milton Delgado, a rising midfield star, earned the Bronze Ball for his consistency, while his teammate Santino Barbi received the Golden Glove after conceding just four goals throughout the tournament.
The Brightest Stars Without a Crown
The U-20 World Cup also spotlighted future global talents. Gilberto Mora of Mexico (just 16 years old, from Tijuana) was among the breakout stars, scoring three goals and leading El Tri to the Round of 16 with remarkable composure.
Morocco’s Gessime Yassine was another standout — the creative mind behind the champions, contributing two goals, three assists, and unmatched leadership. For Colombia, Óscar Perea and Néiser Villarreal were instrumental in securing a historic third-place finish, while Mateo Silvetti of Inter Miami won hearts in Argentina with three goals as a super-sub off the bench.
A Generation That Inspires
With Maamma as its symbol, Morocco achieved a historic milestone — its first-ever world title in any category. Their triumph in Chile 2025 confirms the rise of African football and places this young squad firmly on the map as a generation destined to make history.
