Messi Shocks Among the Finalists for the FIFPro 2025 Best XI
Lionel Messi has once again made headlines after being included among the 26 finalists for the FIFPro 2025 World Best XI, joining stars such as Kylian Mbappé, Federico Valverde, Raphinha, and William Pacho. The winners will be announced on November 3rd.
Messi Returns to the Elite Alongside Emerging Stars
At 38 years old, Lionel Messi continues to prove why he remains one of the greatest players of all time. The Argentine superstar, currently with Inter Miami, was named among the 26 candidates for the FIFPro 2025 World Best XI, a recognition that honors the most outstanding footballers of the year.
The list, published Monday by the organization, features a strong presence from Paris Saint-Germain, the reigning European champion, which contributes seven players: William Pacho, Marquinhos, Vitinha, Joao Neves, Achraf Hakimi, Nuno Mendes, and the current Ballon d’Or winner, Ousmane Dembélé.
From Real Madrid, the nominees include Thibaut Courtois, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde, and Kylian Mbappé, while Barcelona is represented by Pau Cubarsí, Pedri, Lamine Yamal, and Raphinha. The list also features icons like Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi, who continues to make an impact on global football from MLS.

The Only Award Voted Exclusively by Players
Unlike other accolades, the FIFPro Best XI is chosen exclusively by professional footballers from around the world. This year, nearly 20,000 players cast their votes to decide the best in each position.
To be eligible, players had to participate in at least 30 official matches between July 15 and August 3, 2025. The final lineup will feature the most-voted goalkeeper, along with three defenders, three midfielders, and three forwards. The remaining spot will go to the player with the highest overall vote count, regardless of position.
Other notable finalists include Erling Haaland (Manchester City), Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City/Napoli), Luka Modric (Real Madrid/AC Milan), Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), and Cole Palmer (Chelsea).
With his nomination, Lionel Messi continues to extend an illustrious career full of records and milestones, proving that his brilliance endures — shining brightly alongside football’s next generation of global stars.
