The match will be broadcast live on beIN SPORTS.
Uganda Count on Home Support to Break the Barrier
Uganda will kick off their 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) journey on Monday with a high-pressure showdown against Algeria at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala. It's a critical Group C opener that also includes Niger and South Africa—making it one of the tournament’s most tightly contested pools.
Head coach Morley Byekwaso expressed confidence ahead of the match, fueled by the support of the home fans. “Playing in front of our people gives us strength. We’re determined not to let them down. Everyone’s fit and ready—we know it’s a tough group, but we’ll give everything,” he said.
Despite qualifying for their seventh consecutive CHAN, the Cranes have never advanced beyond the group stage. With emerging stars like Travis Mutyaba and center-back Gift Fred, and with former national team legend Dennis Onyango now part of the coaching staff, Uganda hopes to finally take that next step.
Algeria Bring Experience and Structure
Across the pitch, Algeria arrives as a serious title contender. After reaching the CHAN 2022 final without conceding a single goal, coach Madjid Bougherra has kept the core of his squad intact, including key names like striker Aimen Mahious and captain Zineddine Belaïd.
“Uganda is under pressure as hosts, but we are here to perform at the highest level. Every team has quality, and we are focused on the task ahead,” said Bougherra. The Algerians will look to control the tempo with Ahmed Kendouci in midfield and lean on their tactical discipline and strong defensive unit.

Algeria has never lost to Uganda in CHAN play, including a 2-0 win in their 2011 meeting. With only one group-stage defeat in 12 CHAN matches and nine clean sheets, they come into this clash with confidence and pedigree.
High Stakes in a Tight Group
With just two qualification spots in Group C, every point will be vital. Uganda may look to defend deep and counter through the pace of Mutyaba, while Algeria will attempt to dictate possession and find openings through Mahious and their creative core.
Both coaches have emphasized discipline and execution. Uganda hope the crowd in Kampala will push them over the line, while Algeria’s structure and tournament experience could prove decisive.
No matter the outcome, Uganda vs Algeria promises to be one of the marquee clashes of the group stage. The match will be broadcast live on beIN SPORTS.
