Keylor Navas Future at a Historic Liga MX Club
Keylor Navas is ending his time at Newell's Old Boys after just six months, leaving under strained circumstances. His spell in Rosario was marked by a tense relationship with the club’s board, missed appearances in the early Clausura matches, clashes with fans, and ultimately a forced departure. Now, his career continues with Pumas UNAM, while Rosario is reportedly targeting Esteban Andrada as his replacement.
The Costa Rican pushed for his move to Mexico
After missing the clash against Banfield, both clubs moved quickly to finalize negotiations. The Costa Rican is expected to travel to Mexico in the coming days, officially ending his short and turbulent stay in Argentina.
There is still no confirmation on the final transfer fee. However, Newell’s was hoping the Mexican side would improve their initial $1.3 million offer, which was rejected, aiming instead for closer to $3 million. It’s also been reported that Navas contributed financially himself to help secure his move.
Newell’s already looking for a new goalkeeper
While the deal hasn’t been formally announced, the team managed by Cristian Fabbiani has already started its search for a new starting goalkeeper. In the meantime, Williams Barlasina has taken over the role, earning one win and one loss so far in the Clausura tournament.
Some reports even suggest that Newell’s asked Navas to contribute financially to unblock the transfer—further evidence of the broken relationship. With the exit now clear, Navas is preparing to join Efraín Juárez’s squad and hopes to be ready for the upcoming match against Querétaro this Friday.
A star signing for Pumas
With his imminent arrival, Pumas secure not only a top-class goalkeeper but also an international figure who will bring renewed spotlight to the Estadio Olímpico Universitario. The official signing appears to be just hours away.
