A heavyweight clash between Peru and Brazil on who moves through in the Copa Sudamericana 

The Peruvian giants of Sporting Cristal may have had a challenging Copa Libertadores group stage campaign by only finishing in third, however there is a chance for the team to keep up with the South American club elite. 

The 2026 Copa Sudamericana is currently in the playoff phase for the Round of 16. Sixteen sides are competing over two home and away legs for eight places in the next round in August. 

Wednesday's contest against Red Bull Bragantino live on beIN SPORTS is a heavyweight affair but the Peruvians will feel that they hold a slight edge going into the contest. Sporting Cristal have won 11 of their last 15 home matches in CONMEBOL knockout rounds (D1 L3), including their only previous encounter against a Brazilian opponent: a 2-1 victory over Athletico Paranaense in the 2014 Libertadores qualifying stage.

However, a second leg in Brazil will be a challenge which is why Sporting Cristal will be looking to build up a lead in Lima before travelling to Brazil for next week's second leg.
