Awkward Talk? Tuchel and Bellingham Must Meet Before England’s Next Squad Announcement
Tension between Thomas Tuchel and Jude Bellingham could have a new chapter before the next England national team call-up. The German coach confirmed that he plans to meet with the Real Madrid midfielder to clear the air and define his role ahead of the upcoming international fixtures.
A necessary reunion
The England manager made it clear that the meeting with Bellingham is not optional — it’s necessary. “Of course, I’ll speak with him. He’s a great player, very important for us. I talk to many players, even those who aren’t called up. Maintaining communication is essential,” Tuchel told the media.
The midfielder missed the last two international windows: September due to a shoulder injury and October by technical decision. His latest omission fueled speculation in England, particularly regarding an alleged rift between player and coach. The two haven’t seen each other in person since June, when Tuchel had to apologize to Bellingham for an unfortunate comment about his on-field attitude. At the time, the coach explained it was a linguistic misunderstanding and claimed to have resolved the issue over the phone.
No punishment, just competition
In his defense, Tuchel insisted that Bellingham’s absence was not a punishment but part of planned squad rotation. “He hasn’t played much lately for Real Madrid, and we needed to test new options. I have to trust more players than just those on this list. Everyone who wasn’t called up wants to return, and that’s a good sign,” he said.
The German coach is looking to broaden his player pool ahead of the next World Cup, using the recent international breaks to evaluate new alternatives. England, already qualified for the 2026 tournament, will face Serbia on November 13 and Albania three days later — matches that could mark the midfielder’s return to the Three Lions setup.
Meanwhile, in Madrid, Bellingham continues to regain his best form after an inconsistent start to the season. Those close to the player believe the conversation with Tuchel will help mend their relationship and secure his place in England’s plans.
Although the coach insists there is no conflict, the upcoming discussion could prove decisive for the young star’s immediate future with the national team. An awkward talk, perhaps — but a necessary one if England hopes to stay united for its biggest challenge yet: the 2026 World Cup.
