Atlético de Madrid maintains its stance on Julián Álvarez
Recent developments surrounding one of the transfer market’s biggest stars have sparked fresh speculation. However, those at the Metropolitano remain firm in their position and have already made important decisions with the future in mind.
The developments that reignited speculation
Julián Álvarez’s future returned to the spotlight after Barcelona made fresh approaches to the Argentine forward’s representatives.
According to information published by Mundo Deportivo, Deco, the Catalan club’s sporting director, reportedly met with the player’s agent to learn the conditions of a potential deal.
Reports from Argentina also suggest that Álvarez could hold talks with Diego Simeone when he returns to Atlético de Madrid training, with the intention of personally assessing his situation.
A position that remains unchanged
Despite the recent developments, Atlético de Madrid’s stance reportedly has not changed.
The club continues to stand by the message publicly expressed by Miguel Ángel Gil Marín on July 17, when he said the institution wants to continue counting on the forward.
Atlético considers Julián Álvarez a fundamental part of both the present and future of its sporting project and therefore has no intention of negotiating his departure.
A decision that influenced the transfer market
The club had the opportunity to sign Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen for approximately €75 million but decided against completing the deal.
The board’s response was that Álvarez already occupied that position, a decision that confirms the prominent role the World Cup winner will have within the team.
Simeone’s role in the decision
The Argentine coach explained that Atlético intends to build much of its attacking system around the forward, an idea the coaching staff has maintained since his arrival.
Behind the scenes, Simeone is also believed to support the board’s position and would work closely with Gil Marín to manage a situation considered delicate within the club.
