During the draw for the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana, CONMEBOL president Alejandro Domínguez addressed the cancellation of the match between Argentina and Spain, making a statement that sparked controversy.
The Finalissima clash between Argentina and Spain had been highly anticipated, and its cancellation once again became a topic of discussion during the event in Paraguay.
Did Argentina win the Finalissima by default?
Domínguez spoke to the media after the draw and hinted that Spain was responsible for the match not taking place.
“If we apply a walkover, you are a two-time Finalissima champion,” he said in an interview with DSports, referring to the rule that awards a win when the opponent fails to show up.
The comment quickly fueled debate around the canceled fixture.

Spain responds to the controversy
Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente responded after announcing his squad for the international break.
"We wanted to play the Finalissima and everything was planned with Doha in mind. Now things have changed. We were ready to play in Doha, Buenos Aires, Miami, wherever we were told. We were really eager to play," he said.
