After an unforgettable career on the field, Andrés Iniesta is ready to write a completely different chapter. The legendary Spanish midfielder will make his coaching debut this Friday in charge of Gulf United FC, marking his first official experience on the sidelines.
Andrés Iniesta Presents Himself as a Coach and Begins a New Adventure
Barcelona and Spain legend Andrés Iniesta is ready to begin his coaching career with Gulf United FC in the United Arab Emirates.
The World Cup winner with Spain ended his playing career in 2024, fittingly in the United Arab Emirates, after representing Emirates Club. Two years later, he will remain in the country to begin his journey as a coach.
Iniesta joined Gulf United FC in June after earning his UEFA A coaching license and is currently continuing his preparation to obtain his UEFA Pro License.
Iniesta Already Has a Date for His Coaching Debut
The first official test for Iniesta will come this Friday, when Gulf United FC visits Dibba Al Fujairah at New Dibba Stadium on the opening matchday of the UAE First Division, the second tier of Emirati soccer.
The challenge will not be an easy one. Dibba Al Fujairah was recently relegated from the top flight and is considered one of the teams expected to contend for an immediate return to the first division.
“We are really looking forward to Friday. We have been working with the team for several weeks on a clear style of play, and now it is time to compete,” explained Iniesta, who sees the match as a good opportunity to assess his new team's true level.
A Project Focused on Developing Talent
Gulf United FC, founded in Dubai in 2019, has earned two promotions since its creation and is now looking to establish itself in the UAE First Division. One of the main characteristics of its project is its commitment to young players, as the club has the youngest average squad age in the division.
That approach aligns with the philosophy Iniesta wants to implement in his first coaching experience. For the Spaniard, results will be important, but so will the individual development of his players.
The debut will mark a new beginning for one of the most successful players of his generation. After making more than 1,000 official appearances and winning, among other trophies, a World Cup, two European Championships and four Champions League titles, the Barcelona legend is officially trading his cleats for the dugout.
Now, away from the biggest spotlight in European soccer, Andrés Iniesta will start from scratch with the goal of building his own legacy as a coach.
